This large five bedroom home had everything you would want in a Waiheke retreat, except for a place to embrace the outdoors and impressive views. Overcoming considerable obstacles, such as limited space and a steep incline, we were able to form an elegant design which will elevate this property to a true luxury standard with a large pool, fully equipped outdoor kitchen, bathroom and sunken lounge.
In-situ concrete retaining walls will form the perimeter of the pool area and the shell of a semi-subterranean bathroom that capitalises on the outstanding sea views. The timber and glass shutter system will provide critical shelter from the prevailing south-westerly wind that badgers this elevated site. These shutters can be opened wide to enjoy the impressive views down to the southern coast of the island.
As this area is placed a reasonable distance from the primary entertaining space of the dwelling, it was critical that the area was self sufficient, eliminating any need to go back and forth to the house. The outdoor kitchen is fully equipped with a built-in barbecue, fridges, dishwasher, sink, fireplace and storage. The louver roof system overhead allows filtered light or shelter as required.
